Head of Crewing & Marine HR

Navigator Gas Ship Management is on a continuous development journey and now operates 36 highly specialized gas carriers, with plans for further growth. To help us continue executing our overall strategy, we are in search of a candidate to head Crewing & Marine HR.

As our Head of Crewing & Marine HR, you will play a key role in the safe, reliable and efficient performance of our company and be responsible for the implementation of the Crewing & Marine HR strategy; crew management, crew performance and crew care; competence planning, strategic crew sourcing and recruitment; training and development; as well as general marine matters.

The Head of Crewing & Marine HR is also crew budget responsible and responsible for Payroll and reporting.

The Head of Crewing & Marine HR reports to the Director of Vessel Operations.

 

The role:

You will work with a team of 30 dedicated employees, located in Copenhagen, Manila and Gdynia, as well as with crewing agencies.  

Great cooperation with Vessel Operations is the key to success. Your team will work with the vessels and the rest of the organization to support safe, reliable and efficient operations with competent seafarers to the satisfaction of our customers and stakeholders.

As our Head of Crewing & Marine HR, you will continue to build on our strong company culture and the feeling among our seafarers of belonging to Navigator Gas.

In this role, you will develop our safety culture with responsibilities which include:

 

Safety Behaviour:

  • Reinforce behaviours and actions that ensure performance and embed safety culture based on the Safety I’s® of Insight, Innovation, Influence, Intervention and Integration.
  • Promotion of the Accountability Ladder to display exemplary behaviour by Stepping Up and displaying Compliance for rules and regulations.

 

Risk Management:

  • In cooperation with crew management, ensure compliance of all operational activities, regulatory and industry standards within the approved budget.
  • Contribute to developing our business processes.

 

Safety Leadership and Continuous Improvement together with the team:

  • Challenge and advice on how to improve crew performance.
  • Support organisational transformation by developing impactful programs.
  • Build officer leadership programs to integrate and support the overall strategy.
  • Develop our cadet program to an even higher level.
  • Develop a crew training strategy including challenging the status quo, investigating the need, and designing and facilitating activities.
  • Boost our organisational competency levels by e.g. delivering training for seagoing employees, making competence analysis and proposing a strategy to improve competencies both in the team ashore and at sea.

Besides developing the Crewing and Marine HR strategy and overseeing the day-to-day business within the department, you will also be part of the management team and play a vital role in developing Navigator Gas Ship Management. 

You should expect 30-60 travel days per year.

 

Your profile:

  • A degree in Human Resources or similar, alternatively you have a background as a Marine Engineer or Deck Officer. Either way, you have already performed successfully in a similar position for some years where you have gained solid insights into and experience with the various disciplines of Marine HR and crew management.
  • A natural leader and enjoy working at a strategic level and at the same time you do not lose track of the daily hands-on /operational tasks.
  • Thrive on working with people from all over the world and while you possess natural empathy, you are also willing and able to make difficult decisions.
  • Enjoy working in an international, fast-paced, and dynamic environment and while you have a high sense of urgency, the quality of your work is second to none.
